flowji hey all - a weird thing on my laptop today I wonder if anyone has a sense of how to address: my local git repos all appear to suddenly not be recognised as git repos, with the alert: 'fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git'. They all still contain the .git directory which as far as I contain doesn't contain any removed files. This includes .git/logs/HEAD that includes a12:24

the error above is thrown up by 'git add .', and tig command states: 'tig: Not a git repository' and 'git remote -v' shows the same first error message above.12:25

Yesterday I ran a bunch of backups of my system and I did cleanup some packages that I believed weren't required by git, but I'm wondering if one of these may be behind the issue. The only package I removed that I can think could have caused an issue is tracker3-miners (filesystem indexer and metadata extractor) but I'm not sure about that.12:26
The issue isn't totally critical - I'm not a dev just a linux kid. And I only mainly use git to manage version control in a few personal-use repos that are often pushed to some locally-hosted remotes (local network RasPis) rather than anything more critical/useful. Everything is backed up so I'm not too worried, just curious as to how my system isn't currently reading these former git repos as12:27

flowji I was running some clean-up of duplicate files yesterday as well. I think I must've mistakenly ran 'fdupes' recursively in a parent folder where *some* local git repos were stored that may all share a mirror-image HEAD file, so all of the 'duplicate' HEAD files would've been removed b/c of that12:59
j416 as for the refs and branches dirs, I think the contents may end up compressed and so they can be empty or partially so12:59

nedbat i've got a file called .git-blame-ignore-revs, and I configured `[blame] ignoreRevsFile = .git-blame-ignore-revs`, it works great. But sometimes a commit will delete that file, and I don't know why. Does this ring any bells with anyone?15:24

brocellous I feel like git-rebase should leave the completed commands in the rebase-todo file as comments. Would make it easier to see what is completed or reset to an earlier state in the rebase if you just reset and uncomment some lines.21:26
