IPTV: HTTP - initial support for HLS (incomplete)08:28

Build #14526: v4.1.1014 for trusty-i386 completed http://bit.ly/1QOVfV7 08:34
lsd perexg: as it is initial HLS support, what should be already working?08:37
negge perexg: I thought 4.2 was in a feature freeze ;-)08:40
lsd hehe, negge, speaking of features.....08:40
negge: did you ever think of grouping local variants of a service into a single channel and some way to select the service of choice eg like we select different audio tracks? As this needs support from the backend through the plugin to the frontend and you are one of the guys in the middle....08:40
negge lsd: haven't thought of that since I don't have any channels with variations (except SD/HD)08:44
it would have to be supported in Kodi core first, then the API for addons must be added and a shim implemented in the addon while tvheadend and other backends potentially implement the feature08:45
lately though the requirements to getting an API extension is that some backend must actually use it08:45
lsd yeah I know, lets find some open minded people :-)08:46
negge hehe08:46
lsd as this is very common all over europe I think it could benefit a lot08:46
also it could be a start for a portal channel, like sub services of lets say sky sports08:47
or a ppy portal08:47
sekil joined08:50
negge lsd: "portals" sounds like channel tags/groups to me08:50
lsd negge: yes and no, sky select eg has a information channel and a few to a lot of movies running at the same time08:52
so just jumping to the portal and beeing able to select the correct movie without hhaving a channel list of 20 entries would be cool08:54
negge: is there currently any backend call involved when changing the audio track or is the stream complete with all audio?08:54
negge lsd: the backend is not involved at all in that08:58
neither is the addon for that matter08:58
lsd :-(08:58
negge lsd: why would it be?08:58
lsd just for a dirty workaround to start with something on the backend side only08:59
so offer more choices of audio and lable them correctly, but this only works if the backend actually sees the choice09:00
mpmc ant_thomas/linuxstb/xe- : Hopefully you guys will see this - I've tried that fix from antti's git and the Astrometa stick isn't working at all anymore for DVB-T2, looks like a no go. :/09:00
xe- mpmc: thanks for the heads up. i plan to start with DVB-T now as it get me a lot of experience for almost no money. after that will porb have to go TBS PCI route09:01
lsd don't go TBS....09:01
mpmc xe-: Get the August T210 or the mygica, and what lsd said..09:02
Yepoleb left09:03
mpmc xe-: The August T210 (a rebadged mygica T230) works extremely well on linux and can be had for around £14 used on Amazon :)09:03
whyz why is everyone complaining about tbs? i've never had any problems with my tbs dvb-s2 pcie tuner09:03
mpmc Because their drivers suck arse.09:03
whyz well, lja's don't09:03
xe- mpmc: looking ast we speak £22.50 so far cheapest but even that is much cheaper than TBS09:04
Yepoleb joined09:04
negge whyz: lja's drivers work as long as you manage to compile them09:04
mpmc whyz: No those don't but he only supports a limited number of tuners, I gave him access to my machine so he could write a driver for it :p09:04
negge I finished putting together my new server yesterday, everything went just fine09:05
you just have to use Ubuntu :-p09:05
mpmc negge: With lja's drivers? I used Debian with no issues.09:05
whyz negge: true, but that's not a difficult task to do :)09:05
mpmc xe-: You can get the mygica for £19 on ebay if you don't mind waiting for china..09:06
whyz mpmc: sure, but iirc he has written drivers for the previous quad dvb-t2 pcie card.. i guess one can find such a card relatively cheap09:06
xe- big fan of china deals. i like a bargain mpmc09:06
mpmc xe-: me too lol I tried to get the last mygica for £10 but they rejected my offer :p09:06
xe- haha09:07
whyz btw, noone has mentioned sundtek as an option. i'm using 2 of the older ones with both dvb-c and dvb-t support. works flawlessly09:07
they do however use their userspace drivers, but that hasn't caused an issue for me ever09:07
mpmc xe-: If you want DVB-S too get a DVBSky T9580 (it has both DVB-T2 and S2) for about £64 on Amazon, great card.09:08
whyz and they use client-server model so you can put the tuner on a different machine and have it act as a local one on the tvheadend box09:08
very neat if you have a usb bus that sucks09:08
xe- mpmc: got a SAT>IP in front of me to play with so hopefully i have that covered09:08
mpmc xe-: Ah :) Good choice.09:08
lsd SATYIP is nice but wastes a lot of power...09:09
mpmc xe-: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mygica-DVB-T2-TV-Stick-Mini-USB-Digital-Android-TV-Tuner-Receiver-for-PC-Laptop-/251993910670 if you want the last one :)09:10
xe- nice one ta09:10
mpmc do an offer, my counter was £17.50, so try £15 or something.09:10
xe- ooo ive never done that before. will def try09:11

xe- lsd: plan is to drop sky and do quite a lot of ESX consoloidation. so net for me will be a huge power saving prob in excess of 300W09:12
donguston joined09:12
lsd the question is do you need esx esxi?, i did use that years ago, btw with tbs pci-e passthrough09:12
BtbN You need a bare metal hypervisor and some hardware with an IOMMU. Which generaly is not available in consumer hardware.09:13
lsd now I'm on plain linux, all running there or in a jail, including kodi, and some stuff in kvm09:13
xe- i do need esxi. i run it for other work things so i am just leveraging exixting kit to save power etc09:13
lsd BtbN, on the right chipset IOMUU works most of the time09:14
BtbN Intel disables it on all of their consumer CPUs.09:14
lsd what can esxi do what kvm can't?09:14
BtbN It just works.09:14
lsd yeah, you need the right CPU :-)09:14
xe- lsd: scale better in the enterprise and make me money testing things for clients :) but yeah agree09:15
lsd it works, yes, but at the end i found out I really don't need it09:15
so I was this 500w standby guy with running a lot of maschines09:15
got down to less than 100 with esxi09:16
and now a nuc is playing tvheadend, kodi, exchange, fileserver..... whatever with enough performance for 5 people at home with 10w idle :-)09:16
xe- yeah i sourced a pair od old Fujitsu XEON servers that idle with a couple of debian vms @ 36W09:16
SQUelcher i'm running everything (with 5 4TB disks) on a hp microserver09:17
a shame i can't use esxi, as the hardware doesn't support pci passthrough09:17
xe- Norco chassis's for me09:17
lsd ok, hdd performance is the only thing which could be better as you have to go through usb309:18
xe- plan is to virtualise one of my firewalls as well which saves another 100W09:20
negge mpmc: I couldn't get the patches to apply with a stock Debian Jessie kernel09:23
lsd anttis?09:23
negge I'm talking about TBS09:23
mpmc lsd: crope on #linuxtv, Antti :)09:23
negge BtbN: imagine my surprise when I bought an old HP dc7800 second-hand and it had IOMMU support09:24
mpmc negge: I was using 3.18 or something at the time, it needs to be recent :p09:24

negge xe-: what kind of firewall do you have if it consumes 100 watts?10:02

sid3windr Hi everyone! I've used tvheadend on FTA DVB-T for a while, now trying to do DVB-C with a CI. I tried using the apt repo (stable and testing) but no dice. Encrypted channels are failing. Hardware is working, vdr can tune to them fine. Does the apt repo not have CI/CAM support, or am I victim of an unfortunate bug? Thanks!10:53
perexg lsd: do you have a live HLS stream ?11:08
sid3windr: do you see CA config in DVB inputs (tuners) ? if no - your binary is compiled without CA support...11:10

sid3windr lsd: thanks, I'll dig some more in compile time options; for now I just enabled dvbcsa support13:00
I'm already fairly happy the drivers are ok and vdr does use it, but I much prefer tvheadend so I'll try hammering it some more :)13:01

lsd perexg and negge: if a channel from an auto iptv list is added and bouquets are enabled and propergate automatically to the channels list, kodi is seeing the change on the fly in recent builds. If the EPG is from xmltv, tvh will not import it until the next scheduled xmltv import (which would be fine if that would be triggered automatically). If I manually reimport my xmltv file (through disable/enable) I can see the entries in tvhs web if but they are13:51
not pushed to kodi.13:51
I've no idea if tvh does not push the changes or the addon is somehow not ready for this, so the message to both of you13:52
perexg: on most of my iptv autochannels I would rather like to disable epg scanning completely and trigger an xmltv import instead, can this be defined in the m3u somehow?13:55

tvheadend and the addon provide all updates to Kodi, it's just Kodi that fucks it up14:58
Kodi only scans for EPG every once in a while14:59
so that's why you don't get the EPG instantly14:59
we used to have an option to trigger EPG updates instantly when they get pushed from tvheadend but it used up way too much resources because we could only tell Kodi to fetch the whole channel EPG again, not push individual events14:59
so we removed it15:00

Ben_ Hello @adamsutton. I have a Wetek Play that runs OpenELEC and tvheadend. I have been having a hard time configuring tvheadend to use Optus D1 and requested assistance on the Wetek Forums. One of the senior members offered to help, and last night spent an hour trying to configure tvheadend via TeamViewer but was unsuccessful.22:03
The hardware is fine as I can scan and watch channels with the Wetek's internal DVB-S client, Wetek Theatre, but in tvheadend the Scan Result always results in FAIL, no matter what settings are used.22:03
He told me that I should contact you in this channel for guidance or to report a possible bug. Is there anything that you think we might have missed (such as settings specific to the Wetek or to Optus D1), or anything that I can provide you or other tvheadend developers to diagnose the fault?22:04

lsd another thank you perexg, once again a super quick fix22:11
perexg Ben_: do you have any services after scan ?22:11
Ben_ no22:12
perexg Ben_: could you save .ts stream through the mux link (go to mux grid - there's play link)... copy this link and paste it to wget like 'wget -O a.ts <MUXURL>' .. save cca 30 seconds and give me this file trough an internet storage service..22:13
Ben_: I found this: https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/350322:17
Ben_: if it's true , you should configure your LNB as "Ku 10750 (Hi-Band)" - advanced settings in the tuner setup...22:18
Ben_ we have tried all of the LNB settings, but I've set it to this for the test22:20
perexg ok, could you get the MPEG-TS data as I requested ?22:21
Ben_ no, here's the output from bash:22:21
ben@ben-VirtualBox:~$ wget -O a.ts http://192.168.1.110:9981/play/stream/mux/00dd68a8c0ce748c13990d3518d3b5a0?title=12456H%20%2F%20D1 --2015-11-20 11:20:41-- http://192.168.1.110:9981/play/stream/mux/00dd68a8c0ce748c13990d3518d3b5a0?title=12456H%20%2F%20D1 Connecting to 192.168.1.110:9981... connected.
